In this issue of Anthem EnviroExperts Review, we present five micro-reviews. The first review is of Evolution of a Movement: Four Decades of California Environmental Justice Activism, by Tracy E Perkins. It provides a fresh perspective on the history of environmental activism in California, which is environmentally one of the most progressive states in the United States. The second review focuses on Solving Climate Change: A Guide for Learners and Leaders, by Jonathan Koomey and Ian Monroe. This book explains what the governments, companies, individual consumers and investors can do now to reduce emissions rapidly and how we can organize such collective action based on informed consent (and commitment) across different jurisdictional and geographic contexts. The third review is of Spillover: Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic, by David Quammen, which provides even casual readers a glimpse into the world of disease ecology and its importance moving into the 21st century. Next is Gonna Trouble the Water: Ecojustice, Water, and Environmental Racism, by Miguel De La Torre, which examines the intersection of race, power and justice through the lens of water. Finally, the last micro-review is of Minding the Climate: How Neuroscience Can Help Solve Our Environmental Crisis, by Ann-Christine Duhaime. It explains how we might do more to leverage our brains to fight climate change.
About Anthem EnviroExperts Review
Associated with the Anthem Environment and Sustainability Initiative (AESI), Anthem EnviroExperts Review publishes short reviews of important books and reports in the environmental field, broadly defined. The Moderator of the Review is Lawrence Susskind, Ford Professor of Urban and Environmental Planning at MIT and Vice-Chair of the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. He acts as the General Editor of AESI and oversees our book series, each featuring scholars, practitioners and business experts keen to link theory and practice.
Books to Review
We have identified approximately 50 recently published books on environment and
sustainability that ought to be reviewed. If readers of the Anthem EnviroExperts Review want to submit a micro-review (250–350 words) of any of these books, we will include your review in a future issue. If we feel your review needs additional work, or if we have editorial suggestions, we will be in touch with you before making any revisions. Please send all micro-reviews to Larry Susskind (Susskind@mit.edu).Click here to see the list.
